HotHouse Company has created a new initiative to encourage the growth of new and innovative local directors; providing them with a space to develop new ideas and allow young performers the opportunity to engage in genuine and authentic works with community engagement.
In February 2019 we are proud to welcome Emily McLean into the HotHouse Company to direct an abridged contemporary and innovative production of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
The process of interpreting and performing the text will allow members of the cast a rare opportunity to gain an insight into a genuinely authentic process of creating a drama work, led by an industry professional.
The rehearsal process will occur over five weeks with a performance on Wednesday, 13 March 2019.
This experience is ideal for students studying drama, recent graduates who want to continue to make theatre or those who just want to give it a go.
Auditions are open to anyone in Years 10–12 (as of 2019) and recent graduates. In order to make the experience a genuinely authentic representation of working as a company, the cast will be limited to approximately 10 actors. However, the audition alone will be a very insightful process which will be of benefit to all actors.
The audition will be a two-hour workshop, where the actors will be asked to present one of two monologues (these will be emailed upon registration).
During the audition workshop, Emily will ask you to work with the script and give you the opportunity to explore creatively, the possibilities of how to perform the monologue. This process will allow Emily to see how you respond to direction and perform, but will also offer you a wonderful opportunity to receive expert tuition on how to deliver a monologue, which will be very useful for your future examinations/assessments or auditions.
The audition will be held at All Saints’ College on Thursday, 31 January from 4.30pm–6.30pm (instructions and maps will be sent to you once you have registered for your audition).
A non-refundable fee of $25.00 will be charged for the audition (no additional funds will be required once the cast is announced).
The audition workshop has a maximum of 30 participants. If there are no places in the audition workshop, you may register as a ‘reserve’ and if required you will be contacted to audition.
If you are interested in joining the project, but are unable to attend the above audition date, please email Mr Stephen Roberts: firstname.lastname@example.org
Registrations for the audition have now closed and rehearsals for The Tempest have begun. To view the rehearsal and performance schedule, please see below.
Please read carefully before auditioning as the entire cast will need to commit to the following rehearsal and performance dates. If you know that there are one or two days which may be problematic, please let us know via the audition application.
