Renowned director Emily McLean – who has worked for Black Swan State Theatre Company, WAAPA, and Perth Theatre Company – was invited into HotHouse Company this term to direct a performance of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
Over five weeks, Emily worked with the cast of Years 10–12 students from various schools, as well as recent graduates, on this performance.
The project aimed to provide the audience with a creative and innovative interpretation of the play, with a specific focus on the process of creating the piece, rather than the final outcome.
The cast was able to experience the various challenges and highs of working with an industry professional, with admirable achievements given the fast-paced timeframe of the rehearsal process.
The play was performed at sunset in the All Saints’ College amphitheatre, with the outdoor environment providing a magical layer to the performance, which was highly regarded by the audience.
